My latest window treatment job was for a kitchen in a
classic New England style center entrance colonial.
My client wanted the look of a roman shade in a valance.
The mock roman shade has a tailored look that shows off the fabric.
This "shade" does not go up and down, it is stationary.
This is a linen fabric with a Suzani look from Calico Corners.
It is a vibrant pattern on an oatmeal colored background.
Look at how carefully the pattern is matched at the seam.
The inspiration for choosing this fabric came from the wall art in the kitchen.
Look closely~it is a calendar!
The table and benches were custom made for this
new bump-out addition that overlooks a garden.
Another mock roman was installed over the sink.
This handsome kitchen is thoughtfully detailed.
I love how the cabinets and trim are painted darker than the wall color.
This photo before installation shows the back of the lined roman valance.
There are weight bars at each fold and tiny weight bars
on each return so that this shade hangs perfectly.
The top of the shade has a "mounting strip" that is attached
to the board with staples.
Valances should be vacuumed every 6 months to keep the dust at bay.
Dust and sunlight are the things that can damage fibers.
